The included factory letter confirms the serial number, caliber, nickel trim, and June 8, 1906 date of shipment on order number 52237. The barrel, magazine tube and trigger are blue, the hammer is casehardened, and the remaining surfaces are plated in nickel. According to Winchester slide action rifle expert and author Ned Schwing, only 1,340 Model 1890s received the factory half nickel finish within the serial number range 1-329,999 (see "Winchester Slide Action Rifles, Vol I," page 221). The top barrel flat is stamped with the two-line address/patent dates marking ahead of the rear sight and "22 SHORT" at the breech. Dovetail Beech combination front and elevation screw adjustable rear sights, 12-groove forearm and smooth straight grip stock with crescent buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel has 30% original blue finish with areas of spotting, nicks and scratches. The untouched original nickel receiver is 85% intact and has a mostly dull browning patina, some oxidation, and spotting overall. The darkened wood is very good with small dings and scratches throughout. Mechanically excellent.
