Manufactured in 1911 and featuring a factory A grade style engraving but with the addition of stippling. Panels of engraved scrollwork adorn each side of the receiver, and an engraved leaf pattern appears on the receiver ring. The remainder of the receiver has stippling which extends to the takedown collar and lever boss. The front sight pinned base is missing a blade, a Marble filler block is in the rear sight dovetail slot, and the tang has a folding peep sight. A cocking pin indicator is on the upper tang. Matching numbers are found on the receiver, forearm, buttstock and buttplate. The select walnut forearm and straight grip stock have fine fancy checkering. The stock flats are also checkered. The buttstock is fitted with a Savage hard rubber buttplate. The accompanying Roe Clark letter states factory records lists this rifle with a round barrel in .25-35 caliber, Excelsior grade and featherweight takedown configuration when accepted by the factory on July 19, 1911 (no address listed for the consignee). Excellent, retaining 97% plus original blue finish with loss mostly limited to high edge wear. 90% original case colors remain on the lever. The engraving is crisp. The wood is also excellent showing minimal handling/storage marks, crisp checkering overall and retaining most of the original oil finish. Mechanically excellent. A high condition factory engraved deluxe Model 1899 featherweight rifle that will make a great addition to any Savage collection.
