Description:

Manufactured in 1909 and featuring a factory Excelsior grade engraving. Each side of the receiver has an engraved grape and leaf pattern surrounding a floral blossom in the middle. The remaining surfaces of the receiver as well as the lever boss and takedown collar feature very fine stippling. The rifle is equipped with German silver blade and elevation adjustable rear sights. The jeweled bolt has a cocking indicator. The forearm, buttstock, and buttplate are factory renumbered to match the gun. The select walnut forearm and straight grip stock are uncheckered, an unusual feature as Model 1899s in this type of grade are generally found with checkered stocks. We have yet to catalog another Model 1899 in this type of configuration. Consignor states factory records for this rifle do not exist which could mean the rifle was made for an exhibition.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retaining 90% plus original blue finish with the buttplate thinning to a brown and the barrel having some patches of dark spotting/pitting on the bottom of the barrel. 70% original case colors remain on the lever. The wood is also very fine with minor dings and scratches and retaining most of the original finish. Mechanically excellent. For a Savage collector who thinks he/she has it all.
