Manufactured in 1904 and featuring a beautiful factory B grade engraving by noted Savage engraver Enoch Tue. The B grade patterns on the receiver consist of panel scrollwork surrounding circular vignettes of a mortally wounded bull elk on the left side and a doe deer on the right side. The underside of the receiver has large vignette depicting a squirrel in a tree. B grade engraving usually does not have an engraving on the bottom of the receiver. The receiver ring is engraved in foliate patterns, triangle patterns adorn the top of the receiver behind the bolt opening and on both sides of the lever boss, and additional scrollwork flanks the left side of the bolt opening. The remainder of the receiver is very finely stippled. Stippling appeared on a number of Tue engraved rifles. The rifle is documented in David Royal's "A Collector's Guide to the Savage 99 Rifle" on page 34. The rifle is equipped with a Lyman beaded blade front sight, folding two-leaf rear sight and folding tang sight. Matching numbers are found on the receiver, forearm, buttstock and buttplate. The select walnut forearm and straight grip stock feature fancy fine checkering. Additional fine checkering is found on the stock flats. The buttstock has a serpentine grip. The consignor notes the rifle will factory letter as engraved by Enoch Tue.

Exceptionally fine, retaining 85% plus original blue finish with the barrel finish beginning to thin. There is an area of pitting on the barrel near and around the address. The lever retains some vivid original case colors in and around the protected areas. The buttplate has a mixed brown and gray patina. The wood is fine with a hairline stress crack near the upper tang, minor handling marks, crisp checkering overall and most of the original varnish remaining. Mechanically excellent. A high condition example of Savage's Leader Grade. A must have to complete a Model 1899 collection.
