Description:

The Model 1860 Army is among the most attractive of all of Colt's percussion revolvers and was the primary handgun of the Union Army during the Civil War. It was more streamlined and lighter weight than Colt's earlier .44 caliber Walker and Dragoon revolvers and was thus much more readily carried in a belt holster. This revolver was manufactured in 1862 for the Union Army with a "four-screw" (actually five-screw) frame cut for use with a shoulder stock and fitted subsequently, post military issue, in the period with a checkered grip. The other markings and features are standard, including matching serial numbers on the wedge, arbor pin, cylinder, barrel, frame, trigger guard, and back strap.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 60% original blue finish, 85% plus original vibrant case colors, some cold blue touch-up on the top of the back strap, attractive aged patina on the brass, crisp markings, and mild overall wear. The exceptionally attractive period replacement grip is very fine and has distinct checkering, attractive natural coloration and grain, and minor age stress lines in the butt. Mechanically excellent. Overall, a very attractive Union contract 1860 Army revolver.
