This factory documented Colt SAA Flattop Target Model Revolver is one of only 51 Colt built in .44 S&W Russian. The accompanying factory letter lists this rare SAA as a target model with 7 1/2 inch barrel in .44 S&W Russian, blue finish and hard rubber grips when sold and shipped to William Read & Sons of Boston, MA, on April 26, 1889. The barrel has the one-line Hartford address and lacks a caliber marking. The distinctive flattop frame has the three-line patent dates marking on the left side. "44 CAL" is marked on the trigger guard. It has the correct all blue finish. The trigger face is checkered. Matching serial numbers are on the frame, trigger guard and back strap.

Fine, retaining 60% original blue finish with the balance a gray patina and very limited pitting on the refinished cylinder. The replacement grips are fine with minimal handling marks and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent.
