This Remington Type I late production Double Derringer was manufactured between 1868 and 1888. The derringer is nickel plated with fiery niter blue trigger, hammer, ejector, barrel lock, and screws. The two piece grips are black hard rubber with fine checkering. The top of the barrel rib has the late production markings: "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y./ELLIOTS PATENT DEC.12th 1865" in two lines. The serial or batch number "79" is located on the underside of the barrel. The sides of the barrels and frame are factory hand engraved with intricate and well executed scroll work. The grip strap is bordered with zigzag and punch-dot engraving. The derringer is complete with the original dark green cardboard carton. An end-label on the lid is printed: "Double Barrel Repeater/FULL PLATE" in two lines. The factory notation "Eng" is written neatly in pencil above "FULL PLATE". The inside of the lid has label entitled: "Double-Barrel Breech-Loading Repeater" in fancy lettering followed by "-ELLIOT'S PATENT-/MANUFACTURED BY/E. REMINGTON & SONS." in three lines and "DIRECTIONS FOR LOADING". The box comes with a cleaning rod. The Double Derringer is the best known and best designed of all American deringer type pistols and was manufactured by Remington for 69 years.

Excellent Plus. The derringer has 99% plus of the original nickel plated finish. At least 95% of the niter blue finish is present on the hammer, trigger, ejector, and barrel lock. Wear on the delicate niter blue finish is limited to some fading on the ejector and some minor storage rust on the top and sides of the hammer. The engraving is deep and crisp. The barrel markings are sharp. The grips are in near-new condition. The carton is in fine overall condition. The outside of the lid has been carefully reinforced with green tape although the corners and sides of the lid are intact. The end label and interior label are in excellent condition. The bottom of the box is in very good condition with some partial separation of the bottom from the sides. The cleaning rod is in excellent condition. This is a near new example of a magnificent factory engraved Remington Double Derringer with original carton that would be impossible to improve upon.
