Manufactured in 1888, this extraordinary Colt Model 1877 Double Action Lightning revolver features a 6 inch barrel fitted with an ejector rod with the "bulls-eye" rod head, standard blade front and frame notch rear sights and fitted with two piece checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the tops. All nickel finish with niter blue trigger, hammer and screws. The top of the barrel is marked "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co/HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A.", the left side is marked "COLT D.A. 38" in an etched panel, the left side of the frame is marked with the three line, three patents and the left trigger guard shoulder is marked "38 CAL." Matching serial numbers on the frame, trigger guard and back strap with the assembly number "26" stamped on the loading gate. Complete with an original maroon hinged lid box. The label on the lid has the Rampant Colt on the upper left hand corner over a picture of a bullet over ".38 cal.: Central Fire: long/or short." The upper center reads "COLT'S DOUBLE ACTION PISTOL/(picture of revolver) .38 Caliber/6 INCH BARREL/The Colt's Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Co./HARTFORD, CONN.". The end label reads "6 COLT'S D.A. PISTOL/NICKEL RUBBER .38". The serial number is written in pencil on the bottom. Also comes with an original "L" shaped cleaning rod with a screwdriver head on the end. Provenance: George S. Excellent plus, near new. The revolver retains 99% of the bright original nickel finish with wear limited to a small area of flaking on the upper right side of the trigger guard and upper left side of the back strap. There is a very small amount of minor flaking on the edge of the front strap. The trigger, hammer, cylinder pin and screws retain all of the original bright niter blue finish with some thinning. The hammer sides remain bright. The grips are excellent plus. The markings remain sharp and clear. The action is excellent. The box is fine with exception of two broken corners on the lid, a few remnants of old removed tape, and a few minor water stains on the lid label. The body of the box shows minimal wear.
