The Peabody carbines and rifles were manufactured in 1866-1871. Many Peabody rifles and carbines were exported for foreign military use, with this one being one of approximately 5,000 manufactured to arm Canadian militia units. It has a blade and bayonet stud front sight, notch and folding leaf rear sight, standard patent and manufacture markings, sling swivels attached to the middle band and bottom of the action, "CM" (Canada Militia) stamp on the buttstock, and faint "DWB" inspector cartouche.

Very good plus, retains 20% faint original blue finish and faint traces of original case colors with the balance a smooth grey patina. The wood is very good and has minor dings and scratches throughout and some scattered minor edge chipping. Mechanically excellent.
