The included affidavit is from the daughter of William C. Roemer, Elizabeth Sullivan, and states that this shotgun was presented to her father upon his retirement on 1 March 1951. William Roemer was the chief designer of the Model 42 shotgun and held many patents pertaining to its design. He designed the Model 42 intending it to be a downsized companion to the very popular Model 12 which is clear in its appearance. Copies of some of his patents and information pertaining to them are also included. The shotgun has the standard markings including Winchester factory oval proofs on the barrel and receiver at the breech, 3 inch chamber, and choke marked "FULL". Mounted with an 18-groove forearm and pistol grip stock with a checkered Winchester buttplate and 13 3/4 inch length of pull. This is an excellent opportunity to add the very first of a series and previously unreleased serial number "0" that was presented to its designer to your extensive Winchester collection.

Extremely fine, retains 75% plus original blue finish with some light handling marks and mild high edge wear. The wood is fine with minor handling marks scattered throughout. Mechanically excellent. Overall it shows honest use, likely from William Roemer enjoying the fruits of his design.
