Manufactured in 1942. The first barrel set (16 gauge, 28 inches) features a single bead sight, modified/full chokes, 2 3/4 inch chambers, automatic ejectors and factory engraved scrollwork at the breech. The replacement second barrel set (16 gauge, 26 inches) lacks an engraving and features a single bead sight, WS2/WS1 chokes (original chokes modified and improved cylinder), 2 3/4 inch chambers and automatic ejectors. (The forearm lug has been welded on). The receiver features an extremely rare factory engraving consisting of scrolls and game panel field scenes. These scenes are a dog chasing a rabbit on the left side, a dog on point at a flying grouse on the right side and three grouse on the underside. The trigger guard has the initials "SD." A squirrel is engraved on the forearm hardware. Automatic tang safety. Mounted on nicely figured walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with multi-point checkering and solid Winchester recoil pad. Length of pull is 14 inches. This is the first factory engraved Model 24 shotgun we have cataloged.

Extremely fine. The engraved barrel set retains 90% plus original blue finish with thinning and minor spotting. The non-engraved barrel set retains 95% plus original blue finish with minimal minor spotting. The remaining surfaces retain 90% original blue finish with the balance thinning to a gray. The wood is fine with scattered minor dings and scratches, most of the original finish remaining and some scattered wear in the checkering. Writer cannot recall ever seeing another!
