Description:

Constructed of olive drab material in the short-waisted "Ike" style, this jacket bears the distinctive red, white and blue shoulder cord and the two red arrowhead shoulder patches (viking ship on left, "USA/CANADA" on right) of the First Special Service Force. Originally conceived as a multi-national special force specializing in deep snow combat, the 1st evolved into a joint American/Canadian unit recognized by both nations as the forefathers of their modern Special Forces establishments. Included information attributes this jacket to a Samuel H. Champie, Jr, a Technician with the 4th Company, 2nd Regiment of the Force. Listed in the records as an actor in civilian life, Champie volunteered for the Force, and participated in the Kiska Invasion in the Aleutian Islands, and action in Italy and Southern France. Following the disbandment of the Force, he served with the 474th Infantry Regiment. Also present on the tunic are a set of Technician 4th Grade rank patches, two overseas service bars, the Honorable Discharge lozenge, two ribbon bars, the Combat Infantry Badge, and the Sharpshooter badge with Rifle and Pistol clasps. The ribbon bars include the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal (2 stars) and the World War II Victory Medal. A size "36R" tan is present below the collar. A single dog tag, made out to Champie with 42-43 vaccination dates, is included. The jacket can be seen on page 74 of "Heroes in Our Midst" by Angolia, where it is attributed as having been retained by the veteran and his family.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, with minimum wear and handling.
