Description:

Part of a limited one year run exclusively for the United States Navy, this pistol was part of a batch of 396 shipped from Colt to the Naval Supply Depot at Sewalls Point, Virginia (a component of Naval Station Norfolk) on November 25th, 1939. At this point in production, the Government had ceased using branch-particular nomenclature on 1911A1s purchased for the Navy and the Marine Corps, hence why this pistol is marked "U.S. ARMY" on the frame. Round blade front and flat top notch rear sights, with the two-line, two-block address/patent marking with the Rampant Colt in the center on the left side of the matching numbered slide and "P" on top. The frame is marked "P/H" near the magazine catch, with "T/VP" and "99" on the trigger guard and the aforementioned Army nomenclature. Fitted with a short milled trigger, long grip safety, wide checkered hammer, arched checkered mainspring housing with lanyard loop, full checkered walnut grips and a "COLT 45 AUTO" marked barrel with a small "G" ahead of the lug. There is a small removable collection marking on the trigger guard.

Rating Definition:

Fine. 85% original blue finish remains on the frame with some areas of edge and high point wear, scattered surface scratches, and some gray patina on the grip straps. The slide retains most of the non-matching refinished blue. The replacement grips are fine with moderately worn checkering and small dings. Mechanically excellent.
