This is a fabulous example of an original issue, late 1950s second variation, U.S.A.F. issue S&W M13 aircrewman revolver with its original lightweight aluminum frame and its original U.S.A.F. marked black leather shoulder holster rig. These original, unaltered examples are extremely rare with only a few ever having escaped being destroyed by either Smith and Wesson or the U.S. Government. They are discussed and illustrated on page 145/146 of the book "The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" by Supica and Nahas. The top strap of this revolver is marked "REVOLVER, LIGHT WEIGHT, M13" with "PROPERTY OF THE U.S. AIR FORCE" on the back strap, exactly as pictured in that reference. The barrel is marked "SMITH & WESSON" and "38 SPL. CTG." on the left and right side respectively. The right side of the frame has the standard S&W patent markings and monogram. The left side of the frame below the cylinder has a small "P" firing proof. The butt is stamped with the full serial number "C277034", and the matching number is on the back of the cylinder and underside of the barrel. The frame recess and back side of the cylinder crane are both stamped with matching assembly number "4540". This revolver features an anodized alloy frame and cylinder, a blue steel barrel, and a casehardened hammer and trigger. This is the second or later model that is exactly as described in the reference, and it is in exceptional condition. As noted it is complete with an original, like new "U.S.A.F." black leather shoulder holster rig that includes the shoulder straps and white nylon tie down strap. The holster is embossed on the front flap with "U.S.A.F.", and the front edge of the holster is also stamped "55D3513".

Excellent plus with 99% of its original combination blued metal finish and black anodized aluminum components. The hammer and trigger retain 98% of their case colors and showing only a hint of cycling. The grips are also in excellent condition with nice sharp checking on both sides. The leather shoulder holster, straps and tie down are all in like new unissued condition. A super example of a totally all original late 1950s S&W M13 Aircrewman's rig.
