Description:

Widely recognized as the "granddaddy of the Texas style spur", J.R. McChesney is also often cited as the originator of the "gooseneck" shank on spurs. This pair are unmarked, as typical of McChesney's work. The upturned heel bands are double mounted with lightly engraved copper and nickel featuring floral designs on the lateral arm and a triangle on the medial arm. The gooseneck shanks are double mounted with nickel and end with five-point star rowels. With floral pattern tooled leather straps. Heel band width: 7/16" Shanks: 2 1/8" Rowel diameter: 1 5/16" Heel opening: 3".

Rating Definition:

Fine, showing mostly bright finish, age darkened copper, and bright nickel mountings with some scattered brown patina and light oxidation. The leather straps are also fine with moderate wear.
