Measuring 12 7/8 inches overall, this knife is fitted with an 8 inch carbon steel blade, with a straight drop point and the inscription "LUCKY CASNER" on the right side. The hilt is fitted with a single finger brass guard, a set of red, white and black spacers, and a one piece mammoth ivory grip secured with a brass pin. The sheath is Heiser production, black leather with black painted "RANDALL MADE" snaps, "8" size marking on the back, and a sharpening stone. The item is attributed by the consignor as being from the estate of Lloyd "Lucky" Casner, race driver and owner/manager for Camoradi USA. Originally an airline pilot by profession, Casner entered the automotive world as a dealer first, operating out of Florida. From this, an ambition arose to increase American prestige in the international race community; at the time, professional racing was dominated by factory-run motor teams, especially those representing the prestigious European firms. Camoradi (CAsner MOtor RAcing DIvision) USA, mainly associated with operating Maserati "Birdcage" racers, were mainly funded by corporate sponsorships, and counted Carol Shelby among the team roster. Casner himself would count a 1st place win on the Nuerburgring 1000km in 1961 among his credentials, though his career came to a tragic halt in 1965, suffering a fatal accident (attributed to brake failure) during qualifications for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1965. Good. The knife shows evidence of active use, with evidence of sharpening and polishing on most of the blade surface, and the grip shows some cracking and a few stains from sheath contact, along with overall nice color and grain. The sheath shows some light wear.
