Description:

This is a very good example of a German MG-34 light machine gun as used throughout WWII by German forces. The MG34 was originally developed in 1934/35 by the Rheinmetall company with several thousand being manufactured during WWII by several different factories. They were an excellent and extremely reliable light/medium machine that featured all machined parts that were, in many cases, hand fitted with exacting tolerances. They proved to be too costly and time consuming to produce and were eventually replaced by the later MG-42 which exhibited numerous war improvements such as the stamped and welded/riveted receiver. Although eventually supplemented by the MG-42, the MG-34 was used right up to the end of the war in 1945. The barrel jacket is stamped "dot/44" on top over 5525a with WaA11 and some WaA63 late war Czech (BRNO) factory waffenamt proof marks. The top of the rear of the receiver is serial numbered "6944a" along with a "WaA63" Waffenamt proof. The freed tray cover appears to be a correct late wartime or early post-war manufacture that is stamped "pbi" and is serial numbered "9381"; however, it does have any final Waffenamt proofs. The various other parts all appears to be of original wartime manufacture with most correctly stamped with a Waffenamt proof; however, all are mismatched. It is fitted with the standard tangent rear sight marked 2-20 (200-2,000 meters) and the folding front sight, flash hider and recoil assist. It is not uncommon to find these type of weapons with mismatched parts as most were cannibalized during the war due to shortages of repair parts, or many parts were removed by either the Germans or the capturing GIs to disable them. This nicely blued example also comes with a complete separate barrel jacket assembly (this includes the sights, bipod and rear locking assembly) two spare barrels one for a MG-34 and the other one a MG-42, a complete trigger housing, buttstock assembly, bolt assembly, recoil spring, feed tray assembly and a small packet that contains numerous small parts such as a spare trigger assembly, selector switch, springs, pins, etc. All ready for the range.

Rating Definition:

Fine condition with 95% of a post-war arsenal refurbished blue finish showing only minor edge and high spot wear overall. The bakelite buttstock and grip panels are both in fine condition showing handling marks and light scratches on the sides form field use. The both grip panels do show some chipping along the rear edges. NOTE: This weapon is a restricted, National Firearms Act (NFA) Class 3, Fully Automatic Weapon, that is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478. This weapon is currently registered as being "LIMITED TO USE AS A SALES SAMPLE (Pre-86)" and as such can only be purchased by an FFL, with a Class 2 or Class 3 SOT License.
