The most famous and desirable VG weapon was the Gustloff Werke VG1.5 configured to accept the same magazine and cartridge as the Sturmgewehr assault rifle. As the VG weapons were designed to be shoved into the field ASAP, there is very little in the way of purpose-made accoutrements for them. This set of magazine carriers is a two-piece pouch arrangement thought to be the only set known and is close in design to the standard 3 magazine STG/M44 pouches. This set is marked differently; both are marked "MP 44 u VStG45" on the back, with "VStG45" on the front belt loop and "hft45" over a faded Waffenamt stamp. The "hft" code was assigned to Freidrick Becker & Co. of Berlin (suggesting these were made up for the last ditch Volksstrum defense of Berlin), which would be very appropriate for a last-ditch Nazi weapon. The pouch flaps are reinforced in black pigskin with metal tipped canvas straps, with an asymmetrical set of small tool pouches (empty) on the upper pouch. Four magazines are included, two phosphate gray with "MP44" model markings and two polished blue magazines marked "MKb/42" and "MKb42/u.MP43", indicating manufacture for the very early development models of the Sturmgewehr.

Very good overall, with some mild wear and stains. The leather components shows some scuffing and cracking, especially the left-side tool pouch, and the left flap straps show some edge fraying. Otherwise, the stitching and fittings look and feel solid overall. All four magazines are in very good shape with mild handling marks, and the springs feel solid under a press check (not test loaded). We cannot overstate how rare these VG-branded magazine carriers are; they were made in very limited quantities, and the few that did exist were not sought out as war trophies or intelligence assets the way the rifles were. While we've had eight VG1.5 rifles pass through our hands, this is the first mag carrier set we’ve encountered. The accessory every VG rifle is missing, with the fine bonus of a pair of early development assault rifle magazines. If you miss this one, who knows when the next is going to see the light of day?
