Description:

Black felt construction, with separate machine-stitched gold-on-blue Nazi Eagle and black/white/red cockade patches on the front, and black cloth lining marked "59" and with a faint makers mark. An enamel finished pin, depicting a U-boat running on the surface through a lower case "u" is attached to the left side. This symbol was associated with the 1st U-Boat Flotilla; initially commanded by future Admiral and President of Germany Karl Donitz, the 1st was Nazi Germany's first operational U-boat outfits. Operating out of Kiel and later Brest in occupied France, the 1st was active until 1944.
