Description:

The tunic is constructed from olive green twill fabric, with a set of black collar tabs and shoulder boards for a SS-Hauptscharfuehrer , the latter trimmed in red waffenfarbe for artillery or assault gun use. A silver-on-black SS Eagle patch is present on the left shoulder, with a line of gray ribbon trim around the lapel edges and two rings around the cuffs. These "piston ring" decorations are the traditional indicator of the SS-Stabsscharfuehrer. Akin to an American First Sergeant in terms of function and authority, the Stabsscharfuehrer (also known as the "Spiss" (spear)) was a single senior NCO in the unit granted broad authority to enforce regulation and discipline on the men of the unit. A set of removable gray-finished metal buttons are installed down the front and on the pockets, with pressed board buttons on the cuffs. The interior is unlined, with the right side stamped "0/0842/0009" over "Marte-K.G.", with a faint set of size markings (appears to be "114/41/70", "96" and "170/66/61") and "(illegible) 43". Custom installed in the lower front is a small green cloth pouch containing a 1943 dated first aid kit marked to the Verbandstoff-Werke at Teplitz-Schoenau. The shirt is light green cloth construction, with a set of plastic buttons, no makers marks, and no provision for mounting shoulder boards, badges, or other decoration. A plain green necktie is included. The trousers are olive green cloth, with white twill inner lining, tan herringbone twill integral belt, and cloth ties for the ankles. The interior is marked "I/61" to the left of the fly, with the size markings "72/106" and "80/96" on the right over "M41". Formerly of the collection of Bob Johnson, who reportedly acquired the set from the veteran who brought them back from overseas (exact circumstances unrecorded, unfortunately) in 1981. This tunic can be seen on page 630 of the book "Uniforms of the Waffen-SS, Volume Two", by Michael Beaver, where the high rarity of uniforms for SS-Stabsscharfuehrers is noted.

Rating Definition:

Very good to excellent overall, with some brown stains on the back of the tunic, and mild handling marks and wear overall.
