Description:

The tunic is tan twill construction, properly without inner liner, with a white-on-tan Luftwaffe eagle patch on the right breast, a vintage whistle in the top left pocket secured via lanyard to the 2nd button hole, and a pair of hauptmann (captain) shoulder boards with yellow trim. The right collar shows traces of a now-removed cuff title, and the inside left breast is size marked "40/67", "90" and "43/61" over "Kramer", and a "R" inside a stylized diamond next to a letter "H". "H" was the 2/5 Fallschirmjaeger commander Major Hubner of the Ramcke Brigade. The diamond marking is associated with the various units under the command of Hermann-Bernhard Ramcke. His paratrooper outfit in Africa, the Ramcke Brigade, would have had "Afrika" or "Afrikacorps" cuff titles. Originally intended for an invasion of Malta, Ramcke's unit was re-routed to Africa to support Rommel and the Italians, and at one point was written off as a complete loss following a collapse of German lines. Left behind and lacking suitable transport, the Ramcke Brigade made good their escape, first on foot, and then by hijacking British logistics vehicles at gunpoint. While effectively destroyed as a unit, hardened Ramcke veterans fought on with new units during the war, Ramcke himself held additional leadership roles until he was finally captured in France in 1944 at the close of the Battle of Brest. The shirt is brown cloth construction, with brown plastic buttons, a triangular Luftwaffe patch, and an added set of straps and buttons for shoulder boards (a popular service-time modification of German uniforms). The trousers are brown twill, with buckling adjustments at the waist and ankles, white cotton waistband, and white twill pockets. The waistband is marked "R.B.Nr 0/1200/0729" over the size markings "84/119" and "90/102". An exterior tan canvas belt is included. The whistle is as it was when surrendered.

Rating Definition:

Very good, with mild wear and staining. The whistle is in a fragile state.
