Widely recognized as the "granddaddy of the Texas style spur", J.R. McChesney is also often cited as the originator of the "gooseneck" shank on spurs. This example are unmarked as is common with McChesney work. The upturned heel bands are double mounted with lightly engraved nickel flying geese patterns on the lateral arms, lightly engraved nickel triangles on the medial arms, and nickel and copper mounted gooseneck shanks which end in toothed rowels. Very good, showing mostly a smooth brown patina and bright nickel mountings with some scattered light pitting/oxidation and mild wear. The leather straps are fine with moderate wear and some oxidation on the buckles.
