Description:

1) 1940 Stahlhelm. An evolution of the 1935 pattern, the 1940 stahlhelm eliminated the grommeted vents in order to speed production. Originally finished in a dark green, the helmet has been fully oversprayed in light brown with a light mixture of applied grip, and then done again with streaks of matte green forming a rough "asterisk" pattern centered on the crown of the helmet. During the painting, the Heer "eagle" decal on the left side of the helmet was masked off, preserving the decoration. The interior shows the original color, with "738" marked in the rear, "ET64" in the left side, and "57" on the webbing. A small tag hand-marked "Normandy" is added to the webbing. 2) Gas Mask with Can. Dated "1940", the mask has a green paint finish and green canvas cloth construction. The can, originally finished in solid green, was redone with a tan basecoat and streaks of brown and green. 3) "Dienstglas" Field Binoculars. Marked "ddx" on the right prism housing, with a leather chinstrap and a rubber eyepiece cover. A set of windage/motion graduations are present inside the right optic. The exterior was repainted brown with patches of green and minor accents of brown. An included consignor note attributes the items to Normandy; multi-color camouflage, often integrating brown and green, was often observed on German units in Northern France during and after D-Day, with the "tri-tone" pattern seen on #2 and #3 especially associated with the German forces opposing the American, British and Canadian forces.

Rating Definition:

1) Good, with mild scuffing and wear overall. The chinstrap has been shortened, and the leather shows mild staining and scuffing. 2) Very good, with mild wear and handling marks. 3) Good, with mild wear and scuffing of the new paint, and crisp optics.
