Description:

Originally manufactured with a dark green finish in "double decal" configuration, the helmet was painted in a dark, golden tan, covering the decals. Such paint jobs were often performed using material intended to finish out armored fighting vehicles, with directives issued to cover the decals later in the war. Helmets in this style were seen in use in both Africa and Italy by the Fallschirmjaegers, who chiefly operated as an elite light infantry force. On the exterior, one can see the outline of the eagle beneath the current finish, and flaking and rubbing exposing parts of the national shield on the opposite side. The interior is marked "ET71" and "4199 c", with a full set of paratrooper-style web gear and cream colored padding secured by a set of four "two-pin" spanner bolts, with a faint size marking on the leather. This helmet can be seen on page 97 (top helmet in arrangement) of the book German Paratroops in North Africa by Hodgin.

Rating Definition:

Very good, the exterior shows mild scuffing and scratching, exposing aged brown steel, along with mild flaking of the tan paint to expose the underlying green finish. A few dents are present, particularly one on the upper left side of the crown and another on the left side of the forehead region. The internal padding is dried and cracked, with scuffing, cracking and sweat staining of the leather.
