Description:

This is a beautiful example of an original commercial contract series I Luger that was produced in 1940. These Lugers originally started out as Krieghoff/Luftwaffe military contract pistols that were rejected by the Luftwaffe and then resold on the commercial market. These are not in a separate serial number range but are instead intermixed right in the military contract serial number range. They will show Luftwaffe acceptance proofs intermixed with the Krieghoff rejection proofs and Nazi commercial proofs. It is estimated that less than 50 of this series were actually manufactured. These Krieghoff Lugers still show the unusually high quality of the fit and finish on the various parts. The chamber area is blank, and it has the late production C-2 style Krieghoff toggle marking that has the smaller "C" style anchor with the left point of the anchor just slightly outside the "H" letter with the right point of the anchor touching the bottom of the "K" as shown on page 83 of the "Krieghoff Parabellum" (right column fourth picture down). The right side of the frame rail has a partial "Luftwaffe Eagle/2" acceptance proof that was partially removed (by the Krieghoff factory) with the five-pointed Krieghoff rejection star directly above ivy on the barrel extension. The left side of the barrel extension, left frame rail, underside of the barrel and top of the breech block have the "crown/N" commercial proof as applied after being rejected by the Luftwaffe. Some of the various smaller parts still retain their original "Luftwaffe Eagle/2" acceptance proof. This Luger is numbered in the commercial manner with the full serial number on the front of the frame, the last two digits of the serial number stamped on the underside of the toggle and breech block assembly and the back side of the side plate, and the rest of the parts unnumbered. It has the early style brown checkered plastic grips with the coarse checkering and narrow border. This pistol is complete with an original nickel plated Haenel Schmeisser marked magazine that has been fitted with an unmarked aluminum base. Consecutively serialized to the next lot.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 97% plus of the original blue finish with minor edge and high spot wear overall and thinning on the lower section of the rear grip strap. There is actual finish loss on the side plate hump, front edges of the frame rails and muzzle area. The small parts retain 70% of their original straw colors overall. The grips are in excellent condition with nice checkering. Mechanically excellent. An outstanding Krieghoff commercial Luger for the serious Luger collector.
