Description:

This is a excellent example of a Krieghoff "P" code "early" Series I commercial contract Luger with a rare veteran made field shoulder holster. These early Series I P-Code Lugers, although produced in the commercial "P" code serial number range, are considered as a unique group of Lugers all in themselves especially those chambered in the military designated 9 mm Luger Parabellum. It is estimated that only approximately 200 were produced in total. They have the standard "HK/Anchor" over "Krieghoff/Suhl" marked front toggle with no side-frame inscription. The full serial number "P1120" is stamped on the front of the frame and the left side of the barrel extension, and the various smaller parts stamped with the last two digits (20) of the serial number along with the "eagle/2" proofmark on some of the parts. The left side of the barrel extension, frame rail and breechblock are all proofed with the early vertical Nazi "eagle/N" commercial proof. It is fitted with the later pattern unmarked Mauser brown plastic grips with the smooth border with the coarse checkering. These are unmarked but have the correct double mold mark on the back side. The pistol is complete with one nickel plated commercial magazine with the aluminum base numbered "1120" on the bottom. This example also comes with a verbal comment from the consignor that this example was actually removed from a German soldier after a battle in France in the early 1940s. He wrapped it in a piece of parachute material and brought it home, and it has remained in this condition since then. These Lugers are described in detail on page 220 of Randall Gibson's reference book on Krieghoff Lugers. This serial number "P1120" falls right in line with the others also listed in that reference book. Includes a handmade leather holster and a piece of what could be parachute material.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% plus of the bright original blue finish overall, some minor edge and high spot wear, and a little thinning and oxidation on the grip straps. The smaller parts retain 85% of their bright original straw colors. The grips are in excellent condition, showing only minor handling marks in a couple places. This example has all matching serial numbers, with the frame serial number having the number "2" factory over stamped over a number "1". Obviously a factory error as the number 2 is exactly the same size and shape as the other numbers on this exceptional Luger.
