Description:

Widely recognized as the "granddaddy of the Texas style spur", J.R. McChesney is also often cited as the originator of the "gooseneck" shank on spurs. This fine example are marked with the rare "arm and hammer" symbol near the lateral buttons that is often associated with McChesney work. The upturned heel bands are single mounted with lightly engraved nickel flying geese patterns and nickel and copper mounted gooseneck shanks which end in toothed rowels. Heel band width: 5/8" Shanks: 2 3/4" Rowel diameter: 1 1/2" Heel opening: 3 1/8".

Rating Definition:

Good showing mostly a smooth brown patina and bright mountings with some mild oxidation and moderate wear.
