This fine pair of Browning Citori shotguns was engraved by the late, American Master Engraver George Sherwood. Sherwood was encouraged to pursue engraving by Winchester Master Engravers George Ulrich and John Kusmit during his time working for Winchester Repeating Arms in the early 1940s. After serving in WWII, Sherwood attended the University of California majoring in law and industrial relations. In 1974, Sherwood began his career as a full time engraver, and would go on to write the book "Firearms Engraving Theory and Design". Sherwood passed away in 1999. Featuring single bead sights on matte vent ribs with standard barrel markings. The top of each rib is numbered "1" and "2" respectively. The receivers of each gun are a satin gray finish with matching fine leafy scroll surrounding game bird scenes. The "A" gun features quail on the right and pheasants on the left. Both guns feature fine gold wire inlaid borders on the sides. The trigger plate of each gun is signed "SHERWOOD ENGRAVED". With gold washed triggers and sliding tang safety/selector switches. The guns are stocked in finely figured English walnut with engraved forearm fittings, fancy scroll carved borders, and fine checkering with solid rubber recoil pads. The "A" gun has 2 3/4 inch chambers with ejectors, Invector choke tube system (cylinder/modified installed), and 14 1/4 inch length of pull. Included with the set is a custom, fitted, oak and leather takedown case with 10 choke tubes and a 2012 second edition printing of Sherwood's book "Firearms Engraving Theory and Design".

Exceptionally fine as master embellished by George Sherwood. With 95% original blue finish on the barrels, some small surface scratches, and some light forearm wear. The wood is very fine with sharp checkering, bold mineral lines, a few scattered dings, and some visible cracking on the right side of the buttstock. Mechanically excellent. Case is very good with some storage wear and dings on the oak trim.

A fine match to the "A" gun of this lot with the only real difference being the engraved game bird scenes on the receiver sides. Depicting detailed scenes of grouse on the right and partridge on the left. With 2 3/4 inch chambers, Invector choke tube system (cylinder/modified installed), and 14 1/4 inch length of pull.
