Description:

Manufactured from 1868 to 1875. This example has a period Nimschke shop New York engraving featuring scrollwork on a punch dot background, cross hatching, entwining line/dot motifs and scallop borders. The engraving covers 75% of the surface. The exquisite bird head pearl grips are checkered and feature relief carved shell patterns at the top and leaf type borders. Matching assembly marks are found on the grip frame, cylinder and barrel. The period partitioned hardwood case contains a box of UMC No. 2 cartridges (10 cartridges are included) and a case key.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retaining 99% original nickel finish and the engraving is crisp. Some vibrant original case colors remain on the hammer. The grips are very fine with a few tiny chips near the bottoms, crisp checkering and carving overall and fiery colors. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good with a long hairline crack and sizeable dent on the lid, otherwise minor handling/storage marks and typical high spot wear on the lining. This high condition New York engraved Number 1 1/2 2nd Issue Revolver fitted with its fabulous carved pearl grips will make a great addition to even the most advanced S&W collections! Provenance: Dr. Gerald Klaz collection.
