Manufactured in 1960 and subsequently finely engraved in the Midas Grade style by American Master Engraver Bill Mains. Mains of course was the primary factory engraver for Colt from 1967 to 1972, as well as the factory engraver for Ithaca Gun Co. This rare factory three barrel set 20/28/410 is on a correctly sized 20 gauge frame. There were very few of these 20 gauge frame subgauge sets made. Indeed, RIAC has never before offered one for sale. Dual bead sights on the matte, vent rib barrels with standard markings, Belgian proofs, added threading for choke tubes, and 3 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. As mentioned the receiver has been engraved in the Midas Grade style with full coverage, fine leafy scroll surrounding gold bordered game bird scenes of ducks on the right, pheasants on the left, and a single grouse on the underside with each bird rendered in fine gold inlay. The trigger guard and tangs are engraved to match with a gold washed trigger and sliding tang safety/selector. Finely checkered exhibition quality walnut forearm with matching engraved fittings, and round knob pistol grip stock with solid rubber recoil pad. Length of pull is 14 1/2 inches. With Browning takedown case with two extra barrel sets numbered to the gun with matching walnut forearms and matching engraved fittings. The 28 gauge set is threaded for choke tubes and the 410 set has fixed chokes (upper and lower both marked "**S") and have 2 3/4 inch and 3 inch chambers respectively. Case also contains nine choke tubes and two choke wrenches.

Very fine as Embellished by renowned Master Engraver Bill Mains. 98% of the refinished blue finish remains with some small forearm marks on the custom tube choked barrels, light handling marks, sharp engraving, and complete gold inlays. The wood is also very fine with attractive figure and color, crisp checkering, and a few scattered small dings. Mechanically excellent. Extra barrels are very fine with light handling marks and some small dings on the forearms. Case is very good with storage marks, interior staining, and tears in the fabric.
