Description:

Manufactured from 1874 to 1878, with this example featuring a quality panel scene engraving. The engraving consists of a profuse floral scrollwork on a punch dot background. The scrollwork surrounds fine engraved game scenes depicting a leaping stag on the side plate and tiger on the right side of the frame. Crosshatching is engraved on the butt, an engraved diamond motif is flanked by scrollwork on the sides of the barrel, and engraved flourishes surround the one-line address/patent dates marking ending with "RUSSIAN MODEL" on the rib. There is a blank initial shield engraved behind the hammer. British proofs are stamped on each cylinder flute and on the underside of the barrel. The front sight is integral to the barrel rib, and there is knurling on the frame knuckle. The barrel has the number "1808," the barrel latch has the number "4582," the cylinder has the number "6739," and the butt has the number "764". Fitted with diamond checkered walnut grips and a lanyard ring on the butt.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retaining 85% original nickel finish with the balance a smooth dark patina. There are dents on the back of the cylinder. Traces of faded original case colors remain on the hammer. The engraving is crisp. The grips are fine showing minor handling marks and scattered blemishes in the overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. A wonderful example of late 19th century artistry that will look great in any antique collection. Provenance: Dr. Gerald Klaz collection
