Description:

Manufactured from 1861 to 1874, the Model No. 2 Army began production just prior to the start of the Civil War and quickly became popular, especially among Union officers. However the Model No. 2 was never officially adopted by the U.S. Army. Blade front sight with notched top strap rear sight. The top of the barrel is marked with the Springfield address and the cylinder marked "PATENTED APRIL 3, 1855, JULY 5, 1859 & DEC 18, 1860." around the center. The serial number is marked on the butt and the matching assembly number "48" is marked on the front cylinder face and on the back of the barrel lug and on the left grip frame. Six round unfluted cylinder, smooth spur trigger and fitted with smooth grips. Complete with a brown leather slim jim flap holster.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The revolver retains 85% original silver plating with scattered flaking and some pitting on the exposed metal. There is also scattered minor "blistering" and the finish is beginning to darken with age. The grips are slightly undersized, are of the period and have been on the revolver all of its life, exhibiting some minor age cracking and a pleasant mellow aged patina. The markings are clear. The action is fine. The holster is good and also appears original to the revolver, with age and flex cracking, and some minor normal usage wear.
