Description:

These New Model Army revolvers were manufactured from 1863-1875. They were the second most widely issued revolvers by the Union during the Civil War and continued to be issued in the Indian Wars. This example is exceptional, especially for a Civil War era military contract revolvers given most show heavy wear and finish loss, but it remains excellent overall. It has standard markings including government inspection marks, a "GP" cartouche on the grip, and matching serial number on the barrel, trigger guard, grips, and frame. A collection marking is on the trigger guard.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with 95% plus bright original high polish blue finish, some minor finish loss due to flaking, smooth brown patina on those spots, some light cylinder drag lines, attractive aged patina on the trigger guard, and minimal age and storage related wear. The markings, including the cartouche and stamps on the excellent grip, remain distinct. Mechanically excellent. This primary issue Civil War revolver would be very difficult to improve upon.
