Description:

This carbine was manufactured c. 1859-1863 as a percussion carbine for use in the Civil War and was one of approximately 27,000 carbines returned to Sharps for alteration and refurbishment for use with the then new .50-70 cartridge with three groove rifling in the late 1860s. Some of these carbines were then used in the Indian Wars. It has the standard markings and features, including a "DFC" cartouche on the left side of the butt.

Rating Definition:

Very good with 30% of the period, possibly arsenal refinished blue on the barrel, mostly gray and brown patina on the remaining surfaces, some minor pitting, and general marks and scratches. Some of the markings are faint. The wood is also fine and has numerous minor dents and scratches, some small chips, and general mild wear. Mechanically fine.
