Description:

Manufactured c. 1863-1865 and converted around 1868-1873. It has a "pinched" blade front sight, the standard barrel markings, top strap groove rear sight, an ejector on the right side of the barrel, single letter government inspection markings throughout, cartouche on the left grip, "11 HH" on the left side of the back strap, a collection marking on the trigger guard, and matching serial numbers on the barrel, trigger guard, and grip frame.

Rating Definition:

Very good. Traces of original blue finish concentrated on the frame and cylinder, mostly smooth brown patina on the balance, attractive aged patina on the trigger guard, minor oxidation and pitting, some tool marks, and general light marks and scratches. The refinished grips are very good and have mild edge wear, a faint cartouche on the left, and minor dings and scrapes. Mechanically excellent.

Catalog Page: 127
Class: Antique
Description:

This is one of the 1,000 U.S. Navy Remington New Model Navy revolvers converted to the .38 centerfire by Remington in 1875. The top of the barrel is stamped with a small U.S. Navy anchor just ahead of the frame. The top of the barrel also has the standard factory markings. An ejector is fitted on the right side of the barrel, and a loading gate is on the right side of the frame. The serial number and "27" are stamped on the bottom of the barrel underneath the loading lever and the left side of the grip frame, and the matching serial number is also on the trigger guard. The back of the grips are hand-marked "27." A collection marking is on the trigger guard.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The revolver retains 20% of the original blue finish in protected areas of the barrel, loading lever and frame. The balance of the revolver has gray patina. The metal surfaces have numerous small nicks and scratches. The grips are also very good with moderate handling wear. The markings are legible, and the anchor on the barrel is crisp. Mechanically fine.
