Only around 6,000 or so of these pistols were manufactured in the 1870s and 1880s total, with about 5,000 made for the U.S. Army contract. Many of these were also altered for sporting purposes making very fine examples like this very scarce. It has the standard blade and breechblock notch sights, "P S" and standard address/patent markings on the left side of the frame, "CRS." cartouche on the left side of the grip, "1907" on the left side of the upper and lower tangs, "2097" on the left side of the upper tang, and the lower tang mortise of the grip numbered "1790". There is a collection marking on the bottom of the trigger guard in white protected by varnish.

Rating Definition:

Fine, retains 70% plus original blue finish and 60% plus original case colors with the balance a smooth grey patina. The reoiled wood is fine with a few minor dings and a clear cartouche. Mechanically excellent.
