Description:

2,500 of these carbines were manufactured by Greene Rifle Works to fill Warner's second contract. They were delivered in February and March of 1865 near the end of the Civil War. Warner carbines are known to have been issued to the 3rd Massachusetts and 1st Wisconsin Cavalry, and most (nearly 2,500 possibly including some of the 1,501 first contract carbines) were later sold through a New York dealer to the French government for use in the Franco-Prussian War. It has standard markings and features including five proofs, three of which are "crown" over "V", the other two illegible with "30".

Rating Definition:

Very good, showing mostly attractive age darkened patina on the brass with the balance a smooth grey patina, some scattered light pitting, and numerous peen marks visible on the left center of the receiver. Sling bar absent. The wood with numerous scattered dings and scratches throughout, a few cracks, and a few moderate chips. Mechanically fine.
