Description:

One of approximately 2,000 manufactured circa 1842 - 1847. Marked "USN/1845/RP/P" at the breech. The lock is marked "USN/1844" vertically at the rear and "N.P. AMES/SPRINGFIELD/MASS" at the center. Removable collection mark on the trigger guard. The stock has a faint cartouche and "5" stamped on the left flat.

Rating Definition:

Fine, showing 50% plus original brown lacquer and antique patina on the brass with the balance a grey-brown patina. The lightly sanded and reoiled wood is very good with minor dings scattered throughout. Mechanically fine.
