Description:

This pistol is one of 626 pistols manufactured and delivered to the U.S. Army from 1813-1815. 1,000 similar Model 1813 pistols were delivered to the Navy, though these versions are fitted with belt hooks. Initially 20,000 of these pistols were ordered from Simeon North but the order was revised due to the large caliber/heavy recoil, leading to the Model 1816 pistols. These pistols are significant in the history of U.S. small arms as they were the first ordered to be made with interchangeable parts, putting the fledgling United States significantly ahead of its European counterparts. The barrel shows standard markings, with "P/US" on the left and "HHP" (partially obliterated) on the right. The original flintlock configuration lock plate assembly is marked "S.NORTH/U[eagle]S/MIDLN CON" in front of the cock. Consignor notes indicated it was purchased from Jim Wertenberger in 1984. A removable collection mark in white under varnish is on the trigger guard. The pistol shows standard features.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus showing mostly bright finish with a speckling of grey patina, some patches of brown patina, and some scattered light pitting. The nicely figured wood has been lightly sanded and refinished, has minor dings scattered throughout, some light chipping, and a few hairline cracks. Mechanically excellent.
