Description:

These pistols were initially designed to arm the newly formed light dragoon regiments of the British army, the first of which was raised by Scotsman Colonel George Augustus Elliot, and called the 15th Light Dragoons. The 15th distinguished itself at the Battle of Emsdorf in July of 1760, suffering 125 of the allied army's 186 casualties, but also capturing sixteen colours from the enemy. This success led to the raising of more light cavalry regiments. The pistol shows standard markings and features including the "VERNON/1760" lock with Georgian cipher and what appears to be an underlined "C" on the barrel along with the standard proofs and acceptance marks. Of historic note, this model of pistol was used by the British officers during the American Revolution. Removable collection mark in white under varnish on the bottom of the trigger guard.

Rating Definition:

Good, showing mostly bright polished finish and lightly polished brass with mild pitting and grey patina scattered throughout, and some minor dings in the butt. The lightly sanded and reoiled wood is fair with minor dings throughout, some minor chipping around the lock, and a few minor cracks and repairs. Mechanically fine.
