This is a nice example of a custom Winchester Model 1885 High Wall rifle manufactured in 1899 and subsequently customized. The rifle is equipped with a heavy "H.M. POPE" marked barrel with a globe target front sight. There are front and rear sight blocks as well as a Stevens receiver sight base mounted on the left side of the receiver with two screws. The right side of the receiver has been cut down for ease of loading. The bottom of the barrel under the forearm is marked "748/B2/LR/15.9/.94/4.16.30 H.M. POPE". Mounted with an oil finished checkered beaver tail forearm with a sling swivel and matching perch belly straight grip stock with a high comb, cheek piece and checkered walnut buttplate. An attractive custom Winchester target rifle with an H.M. Pope barrel and custom wood.

Excellent. The barrel retains 95% finish showing some minor thinning. The receiver retains 95% refinish with some thinning to brown and high edge wear. The lever retains 50% original finish with the balance having a smooth gray patina. The wood is excellent with a few minor pressure dents on the left front of the forearm, overall minor handling marks and sharp checkering. The action is good.
