Appears to be one of the 500 1798 contract muskets made under contract with the early federal government by William Henry II (1757-1821) of Bethlehem, P.A. The lock is marked "HENRY" vertically reading from bottom to top on the tail and with crossed sabers over "US" at the center. The barrel has a bayonet stud near the muzzle and "N H" and a deep "eagle head/P" proof on the left at the breech. The stock is stamped with "P. BLAKE" on the bottom behind the trigger guard tang and has a recessed cheek rest. The stock marking may be that of Philos Blake, one of the nephews of Eli Whitney. A collection marking is on the trigger guard.

Rating Definition:

Good with mostly bright polished surfaces, light pitting, mild scratches and dings, very good stock, some chipping below the lock, and general minor wear. Mechanically fine.
