Description:

The improved version of the U.S. Model 1816 was manufactured by the Whitney Armory from 1822 to 1841 under two contracts with the U.S. government. This is a Second Contract musket and is dated "1836" on the lock and barrel tang. The other markings and features are standard, including an oval "TW" cartouche (Thomas Warner) on the left flat. The bayonet is unmarked.

Rating Definition:

Fine with mostly gray patina throughout, some mild pitting, and general minor wear. The stock is also fine and has smooth oiled finish, a tension crack on the left flat, some minor slivers absent from the edges of the ramrod channel, and general light dings and scratches. The bayonet has been polished and has a repaired socket. Mechanically fine.
