Description:

An estimated 5,000-8,000 revolvers were manufactured by Moore Patent Firearms Co. in 1861-1863. The reported 3,376 revolvers turned over to and sold by Smith & Wesson after Moore lost a lawsuit over the Rollin White patent generally had Smith & Wesson markings added. This attractive example has "MANFD FOR SMITH & WESSON BY MOORE'S PAT. FIRE ARMS Co." on top of the barrel, standard post and hammer notch sights, primarily scrollwork engraving, the Rollin White 1855 patent and the Moore 1860 patent marking on the cylinder, and matching assembly numbers. A removable collector inventory marking in White-Out is on the butt. It reads "KM-152" which writer believes to be from the late Karl Mouldenaur Collection.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 90% original silver plating remaining and showing dark patina, 80% plus bright original high polish blue finish, gray and brown patina on the balance, crisp markings and engraving, and minor overall wear. The grip is fine and has mild edge wear, moderate dings and deep scratches with most of the original varnish. Mechanically excellent.
