Built in Vienna in the mid-18th century. Similar Zelner rifles are known using the same basic stock design and furniture. The swamped barrel has eight-groove rifling, a dovetailed blade front sight, two-leaf rear sight with ornate finial, gold inlaid scrollwork and "MARCUS ZELNER," and an engraved tang. The lock has "JOH LOBINGER/IN WIENN" under the non-bridled pan. The rifle is also equipped with adjustable double set triggers. The furniture is smooth brass. "336" is marked on the buttplate tang. The side plate is missing a rear screw. The stock has carved scrollwork, a wood trigger guard, molding, and nicely shaped flats. The patch box has a wood lid with brass fittings.

Fine with 70% plus original blue finish along the barrel, nearly all of the original gold inlay, bright lock, aged patina on the brass, some minor oxidation and pitting, and mild overall wear. The set trigger and full-cock notch need work. The stock is fine aside from the repaired break in the wrist and has crisp carving, excellent molding, and general minor scrapes and dings.
