Description:

John Utting was active around 1798 to 1824. These pistols are small enough to be easily stored yet certainly potent enough to be very useful in self-defense in the case of highwaymen or other trouble. Utting was also a gunmaker to the Police Office, and these pistols certainly would have been convenient for an officer of the law. They have pinned smoothbore barrels with flat tops marked "BOROUGH LONDON," "UTTING" marked locks, iron furniture, and light engraving. They come in a hardwood case with reproduction R. Essex trade label, rods, three-way flask, patches, flints, a few lead balls, patch cutter, ball mold, and screwdriver.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall with 75% of the brown finish remaining on the barrel, traces of original blue on the furniture, mostly smooth gray patina on the balance, some minor pitting, a crack between the nose of the lock and trigger guard finial, minor scratches and dings, and general minor wear. Mechanically fine.
