Description:

One of the earliest developments of the combat bayonet, introduced circa 1625-1660, the plug-style bayonet was a game changing development in armament, allowing a group of riflemen or musketeers to become a pike or spear formation at a moments notice, rendering dedicated pike and spear men virtually obsolete and cementing the firearm as the dominant battlefield weapon. Measuring 16 1/2 inches overall, the 10 1/2 inch clip-point blade is decorated with etched and gold washed scroll panels on both sides, with "FABRICA/DE/TOLEDO" on the right ricasso. The "S" pattern guard is also etched, with a carved horn grip which properly flares below the guard and tapers back down to the thin metal pommel. "XII" is marked on the right side of the tang. The sheath is leather, with the throat and tip etched to match the blade.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The fine blade shows minor spotting and signs of polishing, with an overall bright appearance. The hilt fittings show a darker gray tone with some light spotting, and the grip shows some light scuffs and grain cracks. The sheath is very good, with some cracking of the leather and spotting of the metal.
