Description:

Produced by Samuel Coddington, 1739-1830, a gunsmith in Stamford who also served as that town's mayor. The barrels have "TK" between pre-1813 Birmingham proof and view marks on the left side of the barrel near the breech, floral scrollwork at the breech and on the tang, "STAMFORD" on the top flat, "D-C 2707" and "D-C 2708" Irish registration markings on top near the middle, and lined vents. The locks are signed "S. CODDINGTON" in banners and have scroll engraving and rollers on the frizzen springs. The trigger guards have acorn finials and light floral engraving. They are mounted with silver ramrod ferrules, panoply of arms side plates, armorial design thumb escutcheons, and grotesque mask pommel caps. The ramrods have horn tips. The stocks have tear drop flats and raised shell carving at the breech.

Rating Definition:

Fine, showing a polished appearance overall, with a fine dark patina in the lower areas, cracked and pinned finial on the cap, and a few small handling marks. A few small cracks and chips are visible on the otherwise very good stock. Mechanically fine.

Fine with a polished appearance overall, a fine dark patina in the lower areas, and a few small handling marks. The stock is also fine and has some light pressure marks and scratches and some very faint flakes at the edges. Mechanically fine.
