Description:

Measuring 33 inches overall, with a 23 1/2 inch blade showing a straight hamon fitted into a copper habaki, a squared and pierced-through iron tsuba, copper furniture with a raised "man with bag" motif on the fuchi and a cloud on the kashira, and a brown cord grip wrap with human face menuki. The saya is finished in red lacquer. The tang is unsigned, with a square tail and two mekugi-ana. Notes from the consignor attribute the sword as Edo-period work, circa 1675.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The blade shows some light spotting and a generally bright polished appearance, with a dark brown patina to the tsuba and mild handling marks overall. The re-enameled saya shows a number of scuffs and dents, as well as some splitting at the seams.
