This pistol was probably manufactured in the early 19th century for the Ottoman market. At that time, the Ottoman Empire stretched into Southeastern Europe across the Adriatic from Italy where snaphance (snaphaunce) firearms continued to be manufactured long after their obsolescence elsewhere in Europe. The three-stage barrel has ribs and "LAZARINO COMINAZZO" (often spuriously marked on later pistols) in the breech section. The lock appears to be marked "A Comanou" and has floral engraving. The German silver furniture has Ottoman style engraving with stars and crescent moons. The stock has checkered panels on the bottom of the mid-section and top of the wrist.

Good with light gray patina on the barrel and lock, minor pitting, aged patina on the furniture, partially smoothed checkering, general minor scratches and dings, repair in the stock at the nose of the lock, and refreshed oiled finish. The pan cover does not fully open automatically; otherwise, it is mechanically fine.
